Edgbaston reveals 2020 cricket programme

The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed the schedule for all major matches in the 2020 summer with Birmingham’s Edgbaston Stadium set to play a major role by hosting seven days of cricket.

With the ticket ballot now open for applications, Edgbaston hosts the second match of the England men’s Test series with West Indies from Friday June 12, before welcoming the return of the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Champions, England, for the second match of the One-Day International (ODI) series with Ireland on Saturday September 12.

Edgbaston continues to host to the biggest day in the men’s domestic cricket calendar, with Finals Day of the Vitality Blast staged on Saturday September 5, in addition to staging home games for the Birmingham men’s team in the ECB’s new 100-ball competition, The Hundred.

Neil Snowball, chief executive of Edgbaston Stadium, said: “It’s been such a fantastic summer of cricket here in the UK and it has been great for Edgbaston to have played a lead role in hosting and subsequently delivering the biggest games in the global game.

“Being able to follow-up this success with another unrivalled programme of fixtures in 2020 is a great boost to all local sports fans, but also to the city of Birmingham with our programme of fixtures making such notable contributions to the local economy.”

Tickets for Edgbaston’s Major Match programme will go on-sale exclusively to renewing Warwickshire CCC Members for 2020 on September 9, with general tickets to be allocated via the ballot process, which closes at 5pm on September 25. Any remaining tickets will then be released on general sale from October 10.

Edgbaston will host all four home games for the Birmingham men’s team in The Hundred, which will be played between July and August, with one fixture combining as a double header day with men’s and women’s games.

“The launch of the new format, the attraction of the world’s best players and the support of terrestrial television coverage for The Hundred presents an excellent opportunity for us to grow the men’s and women’s game of cricket,” said Neil.

“Ahead of the tournament, we’re looking forward to the men’s player draft on October 20, which is a first for British sport, and will be a great occasion given the success of the draft systems in other global sporting tournaments."
