Motorhome group scoops training award

Motorhome group Travelworld has won a training award after support from Performance Through People (PTP).

The Midland training organisation, part of the BCTG Group, has worked with staff at Travelworld for around four years, delivering distance learning and classroom courses. It recently enrolled 30 members of Travelworld’s staff on a number of courses including data protection and data security and mental health first aid in the workplace.

Travelworld has now taken home the Training Excellence prize at the Stoke-on-Trent BusinessLive Awards for the second consecutive year, and was a runner-up in the Business of the Year category.

Carol Huggins, HR manager at Travelworld, which is based at the Erwin Hymer Centre Travelworld showroom just off Junction 14 of the M6 near Stafford, paid tribute to PTP’s role in the company’s training success.

She said: “A very big thank you to all at PTP for the training they provide for our staff. Without their contribution we would not have received this award, and their help and training with our company is very much appreciated.”

Travelworld is a family-run company that has been involved in the leisure vehicle industry since 1964, and employs 70 people, with 70 per cent currently going through some form of training.

Over the years PTP has worked with the company to deliver a wide range of training from running Excel spreadsheets to various leadership and team skills, including sales, communication and social media.

Other training has included abrasive wheels training, racking inspection training, business administration, internal quality auditing, fire marshalling, health and safety, interviewing techniques and a range of other areas.

Funding for PTP’s training at Travelworld has come from the European Social Fund and is carried out through three sub-contracts with Serco, which holds the main delivery contract for the government’s Skills Support for the Workforce programme.
