Container firm expands Midlands depot

Shipping container sales, hire and conversion specialist S Jones Containers has expanded its Midlands depot site and invested in new plant equipment to increase its container storage capacity in order to meet growing demand.

With the site now expanded by 200 TEU (20 ft. equivalent units), S Jones Containers’ main depot site boasts around 2,600 TEU storage capacity in total, making it one of the largest sites in the Midlands.

Demand for storage has been increasing and in recent months has soared to unprecedented levels resulting in S Jones Containers’ Aldridge site regularly being near capacity. The additional space allows the company to continue to provide reliable container storage and maintain the service level its customers expect.

S Jones Containers has also invested in new plant equipment to keep pace with the increased volume of containers being processed each day.

This investment includes a brand-new lower-emission Svetruck empty container handler to safely and efficiently move and stack containers for storage on site. With three such vehicles, the team can operate consistently with no impact to service when plant maintenance is required.

Depot manager Dean Lord said: “Over the last two years we’ve witnessed a significant and sustained increase in demand for container storage. The first half of this year site capacity has been regularly sitting around the 85-95% mark so the increased space will allow us to comfortably meet the demand even as it continues to grow.

"We are well-placed to support a wide range of customers from international shipping lines requiring extra storage to smaller domestic businesses with individual units for rent. Our central location in the Midlands allows us to serve customers from all over the UK, while our on-site repair service can carry out repairs to shipping containers right here in our depot, saving our customers time and money.”

This latest investment in the site comes as part of the firm's continual drive for improvement under its ISO accreditations including - ISO 14001 covering environmental management and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety. The team is constantly maintaining the site, which handles an average of 100 containers each day, to make sure it runs safely and efficiently while also keeping staff and site visitors safe at all times.

As well as on-site repairs, S Jones Containers also operates a mobile container repair service to extend the life of shipping containers, ensuring they are fully compliant with industry regulations.

Its dedicated team covers the whole of Great Britain, carrying out a full range of repairs including security lock replacement, container door, floor or side panel repair and leak repairs as well as application of its ClearRestore® solution. The innovative treatment is designed to restore the colour and vibrancy of existing container paintwork while shielding treated surfaces from UV rays.
