Backing for grass roots football

Midland Expressway Limited (MEL) - operators of the M6toll - are supporting Gillway FC’s under-16 PAN disability football team through their “In the Community” funding initiative.

This partnership reflects MEL’s ongoing commitment to championing local causes and promoting inclusive sporting opportunities across the Midlands.

Gillway FC has been awarded £1,250 to help expand their existing under-16 team to include a PAN disability squad, providing children with additional learning or physical needs greater access to football and fostering a more inclusive sporting environment.

Deborah Brown, team manager at Gillway FC, said: “The support received from M6toll has meant that I am able to provide rain jackets, additional equipment and pay the league fees to enable me to expand our under 16 squad to include an additional PAN disability team.

"This is a vision I have had for a few years, to ensure that anyone can participate in football. This season my vision becomes a reality and we are grateful to M6toll for sharing our vision and supporting our mission for wider participation in football."

This initiative aligns with MEL’s broader goal of supporting grass roots sports and raising the profile of community-led projects that make a meaningful difference.

Jo Brett, external communications assistant at M6toll, said: “Our commitment to the welfare of our local community goes beyond the toll booths.

"We are proud to support Gillway FC and their mission to make football more inclusive for children with additional learning or physical needs. This project perfectly reflects our values and dedication to grass roots sports.”
