Nicklin Transit Packaging has reinforced its position as the UK’s leading independent manufacturer and supplier of timber, cardboard and corrugated packaging solutions following the acquisition of Geddes Packaging.
Aldridge-based Geddes Packaging, which employs around 40 people, will become part of The NICKLIN Group of Companies, creating a stronger and more resilient business with enhanced manufacturing capacity, expanded expertise and greater reach across the Midlands and beyond.
Based in Wednesbury, Nicklin Transit Packaging is a fourth-generation family business employing 130 people and working with a wide range of major manufacturers and businesses across many sectors, including industrial, engineering, aerospace, automotive, construction and logistics companies.
Geddes Packaging is also a long-established independent business with a strong reputation in timber and corrugated packaging, making the acquisition a natural fit for Nicklin as it continues to develop its services and support a growing customer base.
David Nicklin, managing director of Nicklin Transit Packaging, said: “This is a very positive and important step in the continued growth of Nicklin Transit Packaging.”
“Geddes Packaging is a business we know and respect, with a long history in the sector, a skilled team and a customer base that values quality, reliability and personal service. Those are values that align closely with our own, which is why we believe this acquisition is such a strong fit.
“As an independent business, we are proud to be growing at a time when the packaging sector continues to experience significant consolidation. Our focus has always been on building long-term relationships with customers, investing in our capabilities and providing a responsive, high-quality service. This acquisition strengthens all of those areas.”
The move will increase Nicklin’s market share in the timber and corrugated packaging market, while bringing additional manufacturing and sales expertise into the combined business. Geddes Packaging’s customers will benefit from access to Nicklin’s wider range of products and services, larger operational platform and continued commitment to continuous improvement, health & safety, quality, sustainability and customer care.
David said: “We see this as an opportunity to build on the best of both businesses. Geddes has a proud history and strong customer relationships and by bringing that expertise into Nicklin we are creating a stronger independent packaging business with greater capacity, broader capability and an even more compelling offer for customers.”
Nicklin has built a strong reputation for its circular approach to packaging, using accredited sustainable timber and corrugated board, product design, repair and repatriation and investing heavily in lower-carbon operations, including a biomass plant powered by wood waste and a growing electric vehicle fleet.
The acquisition forms part of the century-old company’s wider growth trajectory, having relocated to Wednesbury from Birmingham due to the HS2 development eight years ago.
