Full-service network carrier EGYPTAIR has flown its very first service between Birmingham Airport (BHX) and Cairo International Airport.
This brand-new route is BHX’s first and only direct connection to the Egyptian capital and is now running four times a week, flying on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
This frequent schedule offers a flexible option for the region and meets the needs of the Midlands’ wide mix of travelers, including leisure and business passengers as well as those visiting friends and family.
Matt Hazelwood, chief commercial officer at Birmingham Airport, said, “We’re thrilled to see EGYPTAIR’s inaugural flight take off from Birmingham Airport.
"We’re confident this will be a popular route for those looking to get away to enjoy some winter sun and explore what Cairo has to offer. This service will also support the Egyptian community across the Midlands, making it easier to stay connected with loved ones and travel for business purposes.”
Captain Mohamed Elian, chairman and CEO of EGYPTAIR Airlines, said: “EGYPTAIR is pleased to launch its first service to Birmingham, marking the addition of a new destination to its expanding global network and establishing Birmingham as its third destination in the United Kingdom.
“This new service will connect Birmingham seamlessly to EGYPTAIR’s extensive network across Africa, the Middle East, and the Far East, offering passengers enhanced travel options and convenient connections to a wide range of destinations worldwide.”
The inaugural event included a ceremonial cake-cutting and special gifts for passengers flying out on the airline’s Boeing 737 Max 8, with several representatives from BHX and EGYPTAIR in attendance to mark the occasion.
