Architects visualise city's future

Award-winning architectural firm CK Architectural has used expert insight and the latest technologies to create visualisations for the potential future of Birmingham.

Following COP29, the global climate crisis and with respect to the future of architecture as a whole, understanding how some of the largest cities in the UK such as Birmingham will evolve is a huge talking point across the innovation and construction industries.

This is exactly why CK Architectural’s managing director Chris Lawson, and architectural designer Joseph Grimbleby came together to create three iconic scenes in Birmingham completely transformed through cutting edge visualisation techniques and industry leading innovative designs.

They said:

Site 1: Aston University

Vertical farming is one of the most common talking points of urban environmentally orientated evolution, and what better way to show this than with one of the most pivotal parts of Birmingham’s society, the Aston University, being transformed into a hub of prosperity, all through vertical farming, rainwater harvesting, and a natural green space on the roof.

Site 2: Canal Hill

Even in Birmingham’s most underutilised spaces, truly revolutionary designs have the potential to revitalise the area such as with Canal Hill. This design creates a modern and future first design led bar and restaurant area, showcasing two floors of hospitality venue space, cantilever seating areas, and a glass roof, providing natural light and potential to convert the other side of the canal tin the future.

Site 3: Corporation Street/ Steelhouse Lane

The Birmingham Children’s Hospital has a direct viewpoint to a building on the corner of Corporation Street and Steelhouse Lane, where lies a building with a prime site for a new feature rooftop development. It comprises of a rooftop bar/restaurant with a viewing terrace on top still, all with al ivy topped statement canopy, aiming to bring joy to those both onlooking and lucky enough to visit too.

"Birmingham is just one of many cities that could pave the way forward to sustainable living and eco centric design, but even just in these three locations, it is clear to see just what kind of technologies, innovations and possibilities are out there for the taking."

Chris Lawson said: “I am personally very excited to bring more of our efforts to Birmingham where I spent a lot of time in my youth. There is so much exciting development going on, and yet at the same time, vast space for expression and improvement like this”.
