Severn Trent has officially opened its brand new customer contact centre in Edgbaston, Birmingham — part of a wider £4 million transformation of its iconic site into a ‘Midlands Hub’.
The centre was visited by deputy mayor of the West Midlands, Councillor Sharon Thompson, who toured the facility alongside Keiran Casey from the West Midlands Combined Authority and representatives from the Department for Work and Pensions.
Already, the hub has created 100 new jobs, underpinned by a strong commitment to socially inclusive recruitment.
By actively removing barriers to employment, Severn Trent is ensuring opportunities are accessible to individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those who are long-term unemployed or part of underrepresented communities. This inclusive approach reflects the company’s broader mission to build a workforce that truly represents the communities it serves.
Deputy mayor Sharon Thompson said: "This fabulous new hub is the ward that I represent so holds a special place in my heart. What makes it even more exciting is seeing Severn Trent reinvesting in the area not just as a utility provider, but as a committed neighbour. Their presence is about more than infrastructure; it’s about creating real opportunities and meaningful jobs for local people."
Jude Burditt, customer director at Severn Trent, said: “This brand new team in Edgbaston is a real positive step forward in our goal to not only creating local jobs but always being there for our customers when they need us. The energy in the new call centre is really exciting, and already in a short amount of time this team are making a huge difference, so much so, that we are already expanding and creating more roles as our teams grow."
The visit celebrated Severn Trent’s commitment to inclusive recruitment, with support from local programmes helping people overcome barriers to employment – also celebrated the history of the site, that’s widely considered the inspiration for J.R.R Tolkein’s Two Towers in the Lord of the Rings.
The call centre hub is already creating new opportunities, as the company is recruiting for 50 additional roles, as the hub has created 100 new opportunities in a matter of months.
