Commercial heating and ventilation specialists Lord Combustion Services are hoping to achieve “a quadruple win” after being named as finalist in four national building services awards.
The Oldbury-based sector business has received its greatest recognition to date by securing finalist placings across four categories at the Heating and Ventilation News Awards, launched by industry publication H&V News.
Lord Combustion Services, which celebrates its 40th anniversary next year, is in the running for the Small Company Achievement of the Year award, along with the prizes for the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Contractor of the Year, and Covid Frontline Achievement of the Year. Contracts engineer Matthew Smith is a finalist for the Apprentice of the Year (21 and under) award.
Publisher H & V News bills the annual competition as “the industry's largest and most established awards recognising excellence across the building services sector”. The winners will be announced during a dinner event at the Hilton Park Lane Hotel in London on November 11.
Operating since 1982, Lord Combustion Services serve more than 1000 customers each year, from delivering heating and hot water work for landmark buildings such as Edgbaston cricket ground through to numerous NHS sites, schools and other public buildings.
Despite the challenges of COVID-19 and accompanying lockdown restrictions the company, which is based in Dudley Road East, Oldbury, reported a successful year having supported clients throughout the year in ensuring their sites met heating and safety requirements.
Lord kept commercial hot water systems operating to ensure handwashing facilities were available to continue the fight against COVID-19. During the pandemic 100% of high priority emergency calls were attended within two hours, Lord reported, while all calls in general were attended within target response times and no clients were left without heating or hot water, despite the challenging operating environment.
Managing director Stuart Smith said Lord colleagues were delighted to be named as finalists in all four categories in which they submitted entries. Stuart said: “Lord is a team effort, so it means a great deal to be recognised for our work at a national level by such a prestigious industry title.
“Like all businesses, we have overcome adversity to deliver results for clients during the pandemic. To be named as national awards finalists for the first time in four decades in business and across such a varied range of categories is a great endorsement for the achievements of the past year.
“Lord is proud to operate in the Black Country and across the West Midlands, so we look forward to representing the region and its high standard of businesses at a national level.”
Lord’s H & V Awards success is the latest recognition for the 45-employee company. Last month Lord was named as a Sustainability category finalist at the 2021 West Midlands Business Masters Awards, organised by regional news website Business Desk to celebrate the companies in the region which have achieved outstanding results over the past 12 months.
The 2021 West Midlands Leadership Awards, also organised by Business Desk, see managing director Stuart Smith up for the company leader prize for businesses with up to 100 employees, while Greg Jones, who joined the board of directors in January, is in the running for the young leader award, with the winners to be announced on September 17.
